Joining VPC

At VPC, we are interested in welcoming new individuals into our community and growing the spiritual depth of those already here.  Membership is not required in order to participate at VPC except to vote for and serve in elected leadership.  You may worship, sing in the choir, serve on a ministry team, attend classes, go on a missions trip and more, all without officially becoming a member of the church.

Membership in our church is taking a step towards deepening your faith; committing to a focused effort to discover what it means to follow Jesus with your life, in worship, prayer, study, serving, giving, living and sharing the good news.

We don't require any contracts or dues; there are no time requirements or hoops to jump through.  The only real requirement for joining VPC is that you profess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.  If you aren't there yet, stay with us.  Stick around.  Ask questions.  God is faithful.  If you seek him earnestly, he will reach out for you.

So, as you journey here at VPC, if you are a seeker, we hope that you will come to believe; and if you are a believer, we hope you will commit to discipleship and grow as a loving and serving member of God's family.

Whether or not you choose to join VPC, we pray that you will experience God's love through Jesus Christ in our community.

Monthly Orientation to the Journey Gathering

We invite you to attend our Orientation to the Journey gathering.  Itís a great way to meet new people while learning about who we are as a church and what we believe, as well as ask questions and get a tour of the church.  Come to the Great Hall a little before 11:00 am on the second Sunday of the month (except for Motherís Day) and get a cup of coffee or tea.  We will gather around the Orientation to the Journey sign next to room 108c.  The setting is informal and you'll get to meet some of the VPC staff.  You are more than welcome to RSVP, but itís not necessary.  Feel free to just drop in and join us.  We look forward to meeting you!

How Do I Join?

Joining VPC is as simple as attending an Invitation to the Journey class and a New Members' Luncheon, offered three times per year.  The class meets on three Sundays.  It is set in a small group environment where you will hear from our pastoral staff and other church leaders about the unique attributes of our congregation and what we mean when we say we are a disciple-making congregation.  You will hear about ways to connect more with God through study and service.  At the luncheon, you will be invited to share your faith story at your table with an elder.  Finally, you'll be recognized and welcomed in a Sunday worship service a couple of weeks after the luncheon.

  • Spring 2014:  April 27, May 4 and 18
  • Fall 2014:  September 21, 28 and October 5

If you are taking the Invitation to the Journey class in order to join VPC, you must also attend the required New Member Luncheon which takes place immediately after the final Invitation to the Journey Class, from noon-1:30 pm.

Use our online registration form to register for an Invitation to the Journey class.  For additional questions, contact Deb Crumbliss in the church office at 703-938-9050 x108, or deb.crumbliss(at)viennapres.org; Deb can answer most questions you might have.
