Child & Youth Protection Committee

The Vienna Presbyterian Church Child and Youth Protection Committee (CYPC) is a Session-appointed committee to guide the creation of a safe and secure environment for children, youth and vulnerable adults.

Origin and Purpose

In July 2011, Session approved the formation of the Child and Youth Protection Committee (CYPC) to provide policy and implementation guidance towards ensuring a safe and secure environment for children, youth and vulnerable adults.

Mission Statement

The Child and Youth Protection Committee, as charged by Session, working with professional staff, volunteers and the congregation, will provide policy and implementation guidance to ensure a safe and secure environment for children, youth and vulnerable adults, thereby supporting Vienna Presbyterian Church’s disciple-making mission.

Leadership

  • Nathaniel Sears, Chairman - Nat currently serves as Chairman of the Child and Youth Protection Committee and is serving in his second year as ruling elder on Session.  Nat and his wife, Kay, have been members of VPC for almost 15 years.  They have two teenagers who are active in many of VPC’s youth programs.
  • Jeanie Thomas, Co-Chairman - Jeanie, a member of VPC for over 20 years, has participated in the Mothers' Support Group program, taught Sunday school for over 10 years and has enjoyed serving as an advisor in Club 56 and the Underground Middle School Ministry PM program.  Jeanie served on the Board of Deacons from 2006-2009 and has been a member of the NewSpring Ministry for Sexually Abused since 2009.  Jeanie and husband, Jim, were married at VPC in 1992 and have two children, Ellie (14) and Jay (11), both proud graduates of VPC preschool and active in VPC youth programs.
