David was ordained on Epiphany Sunday in 1991, as a minister of the United Church of Christ. Before coming to VPC in November 2008, David served for 11 years at Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien, Connecticut, as Pastor for Caring Ministries. Prior to Noroton Presbyterian David served as an Associate Pastor in Mansfield, Ohio and as a University Chaplain at Fairfield University. In 1997 David received certification in spiritual direction at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation nearby in Bethesda, and in the summer of 2008 completed his master’s certification in Death Education and Grief Counseling at the College of New Rochelle.
Throughout the valleys and peaks of his journey David continues to fall deeper and deeper in love with Jesus Christ, his Master and Savior. His heart’s prayer is “to desire to desire you more, Jesus.” David received his undergraduate degree from Cornell College in Iowa, and his Master of Divinity at Harvard Divinity School, where he met and fell in love with Connie, his wife and partner in ministry. Connie is an ordained PC(USA) pastor and has served at Noroton Presbyterian for 17 years. Connie comes to Vienna delighting in a new season of life as a stay-at-home mom.
David grew up in a small, midwestern town, one of four children. His father is a retired professor and preacher, and his mother, a retired school teacher and church leader. Married to his bride since 1988, David and Connie have the miraculous gifts of two daughters, Mary Grace (born in 2003) and Julia Elizabeth (born in 1996). David enjoys life-around-the-house time, daddy-time, re-creative time (golfing, biking, hiking), and Sabbath time!
