Welcome to our newest staff members!
Jeni Porter is the new Administrative Assistant for Children's Ministries.
Jeni and her husband joined VPC in 2001. They are the loving parents of an energetic six year old boy. Before taking time off for motherhood, Jeni worked over 20 years in the corporate world. She was a marketing designer at Sallie Mae and a communications manager at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Jeni has designed several communications pieces at VPC over the years, including the ESOL brochure and business card. She loves singing in the Sanctuary Choir and volunteering at Miriam's Kitchen. Jeni is very excited to be reentering the working world and joining the Children’s Ministries team!
Darrell is the new Interim Organist. He comes to VPC with musical gifts that were encouraged at an early age, and an affinity for worship music discovered around the same time. Growing up as a “PK” (preacher’s kid), Darrell started his musical training around the age of 5 when his parents realized he was playing hymn tunes by ear. By the time he was 10, he was leading the congregation in worship. Darrell attended Roberts Wesleyan College, was a member of the Roberts Wesleyan College (RWC) Chorale (directed by Dr. Robert Shewan), served as accompanist for the RWC Chorale, soloists and small ensembles, and graduated with a BS in Music Performance-Piano in 1998. Since then Darrell has served in churches in the Lutheran, Episcopal and Methodist traditions, leading worship music and worship teams of almost every size and style. VPC represents a unique opportunity to share his energy and passion for worship, with a new team of musicians and worship leaders. “As a church musician, I’m given the chance to help facilitate the flow of worship as we share together in elements of worship and ministry corporately. Looking forward to seeing y’all on Sunday!”
Kristina is the new Lead Pianist. She comes to VPC after spending the last year and half as the organist/accompanist at Floris UMC in Herndon, VA. Prior to her work at Floris, Kristina and her family have attended VPC since 2004. Kristina holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (vocal concentration) from The College of New Jersey (2001). During college Kristina served as the choir director and organist at the church she grew up in, Trinity Episcopal Church in Matawan, New Jersey. Kristina and her husband Michael moved to Virginia in 2001 and Kristina began teaching at Manassas Park High School. This is Kristina's thirteenth year teaching for Manassas Park City Schools and currently teaches choir, music theory, AP music theory and piano. Kristina received her Masters in Music Education from Boston University in 2007. Kristina, her husband Michael, son Noah and daughter Helena are thrilled to be coming back to Vienna Presbyterian and look forward to getting to know all of you. Kristina is excited to work beside Lance Vining, Darrell Scott, and the entire music ministry serving and praising God through music.
Valerie is the new Childcare Coordinator. She has been working as a Childcare Provider and Evening Supervisor in VPC’s Childcare, as well as an Assistant Teacher in VPC’s Preschool. Valerie is a certified teacher in Virginia. Her teaching experience is going to be a great asset to the ever growing Childcare program at VPC. After spending years as a stay-at-home mom, she has been easing back into the workforce, and is excited to be part of the VPC staff. Valerie is a Northern Virginia native, and attends VPC regularly with her husband, Jack and their four children.
