Vienna Presbyterian Church

Clare Maynard became Director of Children's Ministries at VPC on September 1, 2007.  Originally from England, Clare has been in the US since 2000.  She moved to the DC area in 2005 when her husband (a scientist) was offered a job here.  They have two children (Bethany, 11, a rising 7th grader, and Alex, 10, a rising 5th grader, as of fall 2007).

Clare trained as a teacher and taught middle and high school music and religious education in the UK.  When Alex started school full time she felt God calling her into ministry and was quickly offered the Children's Coordinator position at Horizon Community Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.  There was a steep learning curve, but she survived and began looking for a similar position as soon as they arrived in the DC area.

For 18 months before coming to VPC Clare was the Director of Children's Ministry at Centreville Presbyterian Church.  This has been a great experience and she says she has truly appreciated the children, congregation and staff there.  They are so focused on leading people to Christ and developing fully committed disciples.

"I come to VPC immensely excited by the challenge of working in a large and thriving church,” she says.  “My passions are to see children begin a relationship with Christ and to help them understand that a relationship with God is exciting and totally relevant today.  I want to enable them to experience God at work, and to train and support parents in their role as their children’s spiritual leaders.  I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone at VPC."
