Giving

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. -- Matthew 6:19-21

We live in an area of great wealth. Most of us own more than adequate homes, cars, food, water, electronic gadgetry and more. Yet all our confident talk about “owning” can be deceptive.  In truth, we do not own anything; everything belongs to God.  All that we are and all we “own” is on loan from God.  Our possessions, our time, our gifts, our employment, our families, our very breath; everything is a gift from God.  This concept seems countercultural especially today.

If we believe in the good news of the Gospel, then the priorities we have for our time, talents, and financial resources should reflect that belief.  One way to take a stand for God and his kingdom work in the world is to embrace this I-don’t-own-anything principle.  One tangible way to do that is through our giving.

And VPC is worthy of every investment of your time and money.  We seek to be fully transparent about the way we allocate the resources on loan to us; dedicating them to God’s work in the world.

Imagine the Ministry Center with no debt.  Imagine more money available for missions.  That means food for the hungry, help for the needy, hope for the hurting, and shelter for the homeless.  It means children experiencing the love and joy of God, students given an alternative to the strong pull of today’s popular culture, marriages restored and enriched, families brought to Christ.  Lives changed.  Lives that matter to God.  That’s the work of Christ.  That’s what we seek to do here at VPC.  And that’s what we can do with the generous giving of our members and friends.
