The Art of Neighboring, March 7-8, 2014

Dave Runyon gave a presentation at VPC on March 7-8, 2014 based on his book "The Art of Neighboring".  Jesus commanded us to love our neighbors as ourselves.  Do you know your neighbors?  If you donít know them, how can you love them?  Living in a neighborhood is not the same thing as being a neighbor.

Women's Steak and a Story Dinner, April 19, 2013

Elisa Cafferky

Overcoming Obstacles in Life and Work

Women of VPC and their guests enjoyed fellowship over a steak or chicken dinner, and then heard an inspirational presentation from Elisa Levitz Cafferky, a Security Advisor for Coverity.  In 2007 she took 18 months off to care for her son after he suffered a major spinal cord injury.  Earlier, when challenged by some close friends and her husband to reconcile her strong Jewish faith with her love of the philosophy of Ayn Rand, Elisa read the entire Bible on a dare.  Elisaís journey to reconcile what she read in the Bible with her faith, her work/life philosophy and the tragic accident of her son was not an easy one.  At the dinner, Elisa described her spiritual journey and explained how she was able to find strength and peace in the midst of pressure, setbacks, doubt and tragedy.

Rev. Dr. Richard G. Hutcheson Memorial Service, January 19, 2012

The Rev. Dr. Richard Gordon Hutcheson Jr., Pastor Emeritus, died on Sunday, January 15, 2012.  Dick served Vienna Presbyterian Church as senior pastor from 1981 to 1986.  A funeral service and reception was held at VPC on Thursday, January 19, to "celebrate his life and bear witness to the confidence we share in his resurrection to eternal life."

As Senior Pastor Peter James further said in a letter to the congregation: "Most of you have joined our fellowship since 1986 and did not have the pleasure of knowing Dick in his pastoral role.  Dick served as a mentor and colleague in the early days of my ministry.  He also made the privilege of sharing a co-pastoral ministry possible for me as a young associate pastor.  If it were not for the sovereign grace of God and Dick Hutcheson, it would not have been possible for me to serve in the role I am now.  Dick was a valued friend, pastor and wise counselor to our entire church family."

The service was broadcast live over the internet, and you may now listen to an audio recording of the service.  You may also view the memorial service program.
