after visiting Montpelier

The Seniors Ministry, for all members and friends of Vienna Presbyterian Church 55 years and older, is also know as SWATT -- Seniors with Available Time and Talent.  SWATT was started in 1993.

Calendar of Activities and Events

See the SWATT activity calendar.

Goal of SWATT

  • To enhance the fellowship, spiritual enrichment, service, and general enjoyment of life of the seniors (members and friends) of Vienna Presbyterian Church.

  • View/print the VPC guide entitled "Resources for Senior Adults and Caregivers", which includes sections on Caregiver Support, Financial Counseling and Consumer Assistance, Food and Meals, Homecare, Home Maintenance and Home Repair/Adaptibility, Housing, Social and Fellowship, Spiritual Guidance and Support, Transportation, General Information, News and Items of Interest.
  • View/print the Personal Funeral or Memorial Service Information Form.  This form may be printed and filled-in offline, and retained with your important records.  It lays out your wishes and provides information pertaining to funeral and/or a memorial service.

  • Monthly Potluck Luncheons in the Church (Great Hall):
    • Monthly luncheons are normally potluck style; bring a main dish, salad, vegetable, dessert, or whatever to share; drinks and paper products are provided.
    • Reservations are not required and dress is informal; just come and bring a friend!
    • Potlucks are usually held the second Wednesday of each month, and will start at 12:25 pm.  Arrive earlier to drop-off or set up your potluck dish.
    • Luncheons typically include a speaker, musical performance, or program of general interest.
  • Day/Night/Travel Trips:
    • Local trips One outing occurs most months, except for the summer.  Activities are varied, such as live performance, museum, or historical venue, and generally includes a meal.  Members pay their own way and for commercial bus transportation.  A volunteer lead-person organizes and coordinates each event.
    • Overnight trips Occasionally, bus trips of 2-3 days are planned to supplement the monthly program.  In June 2011 SWATT visited Staunton, VA.
  • Service:
    • SWATT may perform church related service projects, such as the Blood Drives, serving Ice Cream on July 4, Halloween Hospitality, church directory publication.
    • SWATT hosts the fellowship Coffee Connection between services in months that have a fifth Sunday.
    • In addition to organized projects, SWATT members are very active individually in the life of VPC and give freely of their time helping others.

  • No official membership; any church member or friend may attend any event.
  • A volunteer(s) from the general membership serves as Committee Chairperson(s).
  • Charles Geschiere serves as church liaison/advisor.
  • The SWATT Team is part of the Adult Ministry and receives seed money from that ministry, although it is essentially self supporting.
