Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  How much of my time will this commitment involve?
A:  The overall commitment is one year, which begins with a five week long training program, consisting of a two hour session each week.  New small groups kick off the beginning of March 2009.  The groups studies run for six to eight week periods throughout the fall, winter and spring.  There will be shorter ongoing training sessions throughout the year as well as check-in meetings to ensure you are being invested in as a leader.

Q:  How will people get put into my group?
A:  We will have a Small Group Kickoff to encourage all members of VPC to join a group.  After sign-ups someone from our Assimilation team will place people in your group based on similarities within the group.

Q:  Do I have to come up with my own study materials?
A:  No.  Curriculum is generally provided for sermon-based groups, and adult ministry staff can help identify other curricula to suit the needs of your group.

Q:  What if I get in “over my head”?
A:  We have created a support structure to hopefully prevent this from happening.  Ginni Richards is available for any questions or problems that may come up.  We will also provide shorter training sessions throughout the year to encourage leaders.

Q:  What happens at the end of my one year commitment?
A:  You may choose to continue being a small group leader or decide that you would like to take a break.  You and someone from the small groups team will make that decision together.

Q:  How do I apply?
A:  Fill out the application, which you can download from the website, and return by email to deb.crumbliss@viennapres.org or to the church office, ATTN: Deb Crumbliss.

Q:  What if I have a question that doesn’t appear here?
A:  Contact Ginni Richards, Small Group Task Force member, at 703-938-9050 x123 or ginni.richards(at)viennapres.org, or Pastor Glenda Simpkins Hoffman at 703-938-9050 x114.
