and spiritual formation
"Now this is eternal life: that they may know you,
the only true God,
and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
John 17:3
"Remain in me, and I will remain in you.
No branch can bear fruit by itself;
it must remain in the vine”
John 15:4
"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
Romans 12:2
What is "Growing Your Soul" about?
“Growing Your Soul” is designed to deepen your communion with God, with a small group of fellow pilgrims and with one particular spiritual companion of your choice. It is a nine month journey seeking further transformation into the image of Christ. Since communion and transformation are integrally linked with self-awareness, one of Augustine’s prayers expresses a central hope of this course. “Grant Lord that I might know myself and that I might know Thee.” The course is an invitation and opportunity to cooperate with the Holy Spirit's purposes in our lives through intentional choices with a small group of fellow God-seekers.
Who is this class for?
The class is designed for people who are hungry for more of God and more of God’s purposes in their lives. These pilgrims need, above all else, an open and honest heart towards God and one another. They must be willing to grow in self-awareness and self-disclosing communion with one another. They must have an open mind and be willing to explore a variety of Christian traditions and engage in a variety of spiritual disciplines which may go beyond their previous experiences. They must be willing to covenant together to make this journey a priority in their lives for the entire duration of the course.
What are the time requirements?
The course includes weekly meetings from September 2011 through mid-May 2012, and two group retreats. Each participant is also asked to make a personal retreat day sometime during the course and to meet weekly with a spiritual companion of their choice. During the nine months please anticipate spending a minimum of 30 minutes a day in devotional reading, prayer and other spiritual disciplines, personal reflection and journaling.
