The VPC Childcare program includes the following components:

Weekday Childcare

Childcare at VPC is available for children ages one month through 6 years for some church events and activities.  Children are welcomed into the childcare ministry on a reservation basis.  Reservations are to be made as soon as possible, but at least 48 hours in advance, by contacting Valerie Clark, Childcare Supervisor, at 703-938-9050 x159, or

If you are planning a church event and would like to have childcare for that event, please contact Valerie Clark (see above) at least two weeks in advance to determine if childcare can be provided for your event.

Weekday childcare offers quality care and attention to children’s physical and emotional needs.  Our professional and experienced caregivers welcome, play and care for each child.  The relationships developed in the weekday childcare ministry are often meaningful and significant.

We offer the children a graham cracker snack; however, parents are welcome to bring a preferred snack for children who do not care for graham crackers or have food allergies.

For more information on our childcare policies and procedures, please contact Valerie Clark, Childcare Supervisor, at 703-938-9050 x159, or

Sunday Morning Nursery

VPC’s nursery is available for children ages 1 month through 2 years old at both the 9:30 and 11:00 am Sunday morning worship services; the nursery is not open at the 8:00 am service (except on Easter Sunday).  If your child is older than 2 years, please see Sunday Morning Classes for other options.  Sunday morning nursery is staffed by Phyllis Swenson and a committed corps of volunteers who nurture and teach our smallest members.

Three classrooms are designed to meet the developmental needs of the children in their age group:

  • Lambs are newborns to early walkers
  • Bunnies are children walking well up to age 2
  • Lion Cubs are two year olds

Each room is well-equipped with appropriate, good-quality toys.  We try to ensure that each room is kept to a high standard of cleanliness.

We have a comprehensive check-in process that enables parents to leave, confident that their child is safe.  Parents are asked to provide a cell phone number and keep their cell phone close by during the service, on vibrate, so we can contact them if needed.

More information is available (see below) if you are interested in volunteering in the nursery.

If you have questions about the Sunday morning nursery, please contact Phyllis Swenson at 703-938-9050 x137, or

Volunteering in the Nursery on Sunday Morning

Our nursery cares for an average of 40 children each Sunday.  To do this, we rely on parents, grandparents, high schoolers, and individuals who love children.  We need many volunteers each week to provide quality care.

The nursery is often the first place new families visit when they arrive at VPC, and our care of their children may play a large role in whether they return on future occasions.  What a wonderful opportunity we have to serve children and their families!  Playing with, reading to, and singing with our children are encouraged.

If you would like to serve in the nursery during one service or more per month, please contact Phyllis Swenson at 703-938-9050 x137, or
