How to Listen to Recordings
Audio recordings of most musical events and concerts from VPC are made available in Windows Media Audio (.WMA) format. In April 2010 we began storing small files in .MP3 format. The recordings may be played online. VPC sound engineers have tried to find a balance between maintaining adequate audio quality and keeping file sizes within reasonable limits. A media player (such as Windows Media Player, QuickTime, or RealPlayer) is required to listen to the .wma audio files. Most Windows-based computers have a media player already installed. "Mac" users who do not already have the version of Windows Media Player on your system may obtain it free for Mac OS X; see the VPC Site Help page. To listen to a recording, click on the link (highlighted text); that will start the media player and the audio recording.
VPC sound engineers have placed "file markers" within most of the large audio files available on this web site. These file markers function as a table of contents, and allow the listener to jump from one section to another as desired. File markers may not be supported by other than Windows Media Player on Windows-based systems.
To use the file markers in Windows Media Player, after the audio has started playing, use the player menus to select "View" and "File Markers". A list of the available file markers will then be displayed. Click on any listed file marker to jump to that section of the recording. PLEASE NOTE that when jumping ahead to a later section in the audio, there may be a delay before the audio for that section starts playing, while the media player locates and downloads/buffers to the start of the section. This delay could be 60 seconds or more, depending on the total length of the recording, how far "downstream" you are jumping, and the speed of your internet connection.
You may jump to other sections of the recording in the same manner. Close the media player when you are finished.
