On October 3, VPC’s own Sam Mall will host an informational dinner to share the work of Reach Out International, a Christian interfaith charitable outreach ministry, working to eradicate the growing threat of religious intolerance for and persecution of the Christian Church in Pakistan.
Can you believe that this is the 10 year anniversary of our Vienna CROP Hunger Walk? CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty and together with our brothers and sisters in faith considerable resources are raised each year to combat hunger. This year's CROP Hunger Walk is Sunday, November 9 at 2:00 pm.
Additionally, 25% of our funds are donated to Community for Helping Others (CHO) our beloved home grown organization that does so much for those in need throughout the Vienna/Oakton area.
You won't want to miss the kick off rally on September 21 at 2:00 pm at VPC. We're very pleased to have Alex Morse who works with Foods Resource Bank, a partner of Church World Service, with us for the event. Alex is an impressive young man, and his discussion of the community development work they're engaged in was both informational and incredibly inspiring! Come hear from a committed Christian who is working to overcome hunger throughout the world. www.viennacropwalk.org.
In December we will again participate with Project Angeltree as we reach out to the children of inmates and their families with the love of Christ. This unique program gives us an opportunity to share Christ’s love by helping to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the families of prisoners. This year we’ll team with our missions partner, Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, as we reach out to local Fairfax County families whose loved ones are incarcerated. Details to follow, but please plan to join us as we show them Christ’s love and experience the fellowship of inviting these families to our church to receive our presents.
Baby, it’s cold outside! We are very pleased to share that a team is forming to help VPC become a Hypothermia Prevention Center! Thirty-six houses of worship will open their doors to homeless men and women throughout Fairfax County. The week we’ve chosen to offer food and shelter is February 1-7. Many hands will be needed to pull this effort together, and we’d welcome additional volunteers to the team that is planning this incredibly important week! We will showcase both our hospitality and our belief that we are mandated to care for our sisters, as we welcome, feed and provide fellowship. Join the team – as always, you’ll receive so much more than you will give! Our first organizational meeting will be on August 25 at 4:00 pm. Contact sue.hamblen(at)viennapres.org for further information.
Spring will bring our 5th annual Stop Hunger Now event at James Madison High School! Last year’s effort included 1,400 volunteers that packed 250,000 meals! Save the Date – April 18! For more information, see https://www.facebook.com/StopHungerNowViennaOakton.
Also coming this spring is an opportunity to experience the Compassion International experience. Our community will have the opportunity to travel the world without leaving our property! Did you know that over a BILLION people live on less than $1.25 a day? The Compassion experience is an immersive, audio, visual and tactile journey that pulls back the curtain on global poverty and reveals the power of hope. You will definitely want to be part of this experience!
