Dementia Care Ministry

“Carry each other’s burdens and so you will fulfill the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2

The purpose of the VPC Dementia Care Ministry is to raise awareness and create a dementia-friendly church community as we show care and support for caregivers as well as those who are living with dementia. There are two ministry opportunities presently offered as follows:

Park Street Fellowship

The Park Street Fellowship is designed to provide a warm and welcoming space for members of our community living with dementia along with support and encouragement for family caregivers. This gathering is for both those living with dementia and their caregivers. The first portion of the meeting involves group fellowship time (music and socialization), followed by a light lunch with caregivers breaking out for a support group meeting while loved ones participate in volunteer-led stimulating activities and conversation in a safe and comfortable environment during the second half of the meeting. Additionally, we also share information about resources and services in the community that may be of interest to caregivers and their loved ones. (See the link on this page for a resource list.)

The “Park Street Fellowship” meets on Mondays (usually twice monthly) from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Upcoming Park Street Fellowship meetings are as follows: April 13 and 27, May 11, June 8 and 22. Check back for posting of summer and fall dates. Please register the week prior to a gathering by calling Lara Ferreira at 703.938.9050 or via online contact form.

Support Group for Women with Loved Ones Living with Dementia

This support group is specifically for women whose spouse or parent is living with dementia. The group is a mutual sharing and support group, not a therapy group. Group members “one-another” through care and support and sharing of resources as each is able to contribute.

This group meets on the first Tuesday of every month from 7:00 – 8:30 pm in the VPC church parlor. Spring dates as follows: April 7, May 5, June 5. It is not necessary to RSVP to attend this group.

If you have questions or other related needs for support, please contact Pastor Connie Jordan-Haas at 703.938.9050, x116 or email.
