Learning Communities

Come as you are any week to these mid-sized groups where you can meet a variety of people. No prior Bible knowledge or sign up is required. There are both Sunday and midweek options.

Small Groups

Make new friends as you learn to live your faith with 6-10 people who commit to gathering for a period of time. New groups form in the fall, new year, and spring. Sign ups are below.

Advent Conspiracy Sermon Discussion Group Starting 11/27

Join the groundswell of Christ-followers who are choosing to make Christmas what it should be—a joyous celebration of Jesus’ birth that enriches our hearts and the world around us. During the four weeks of Advent, VPC will focus on four weekly themes: worship fully, spend less, give more, and love all. Each week, this group will take a deeper look at the sermon scripture and share practical ideas for applying the theme. On 12/18, they’ll gather in the Fellowship Hall to participate in a church-wide service project. Get more info and sign up to donate items to the Bags of Love project at www.viennapres.org/missions.

Parent Connect: Advent Conspiracy for Families Starting 11/27

Make friends at church and get some great advice for your parenting journey while your babies, kids, and teens enjoy their own community with the programs happening for them on Sundays at 10:10. From 11/27-12/11, the group will explore making Christmas meaningful again through the discussing the Advent Conspiracy sermon series and family kit ideas. On 12/18, this group will gather with their families in the Fellowship Hall to participate in a church-wide service project. International Friends Bible Study

This group welcomes international friends to our VPC church family. It values creating the opportunity to connect with people from different cultural backgrounds and reading the Bible together. Everyone who wants to attend can come! There will be people who speak English as a second language, people who have lived in other countries, and church members who want to meet international people. Talking about the Bible verses in the sermon gives us a better understanding of the sermon topic while growing our English conversation skills. There is no preparation required. Come join us!

Perspectives: Abortion (a Conversation)

Perspectives is a class that respectfully addresses current controversial topics through the lens of Christ and our world, knowing that believers have different perspectives. Each week is a welcoming, diverse conversation. This fall, we are discussing the issue of abortion. Join the conversation anytime during the series!

On third Sundays of the month, this group takes a break from its series to hear from visiting missionaries about Christ’s work in the world. VPC’s missions ministry hosts guest speakers in Fellowship Hall.

 

Foundations

A community with open hearts, open minds, and open doors, seeking Jesus’ guidance for our lives. Grow your roots in Christ with practical insights for how we can love God and love one another. The lessons in Foundations will enhance your understanding of scripture using prominent Christian books as a resource to engage in thoughtful discussion. This fall, Foundations is exploring Renovation of the Heart by Dallas Willard.

Galatians for You

In Galatians for You, Pastor Tim Keller walks through the book of Galatians showing how the gospel message changes the whole of our lives. Explore how you can imitate Jesus Christ in your relationships, worldview, and everyday tasks with a community that values learning from each other’s insights. No preparation is required to participate, though you may find it helpful to follow along by purchasing the book. Each week the facilitators will give an overview of the book chapter being discussed so that anyone can follow along and contribute to the conversation.

Join this friendly group to take a closer look at the sermon scripture. Their simple method of inductive study is easy to follow and interesting! Come any week to discover how the scripture of the day matters to your life through reflection, sharing insights, asking questions, and exploring how the text answers the group’s questions.

Members of this inclusive community for adults with and without intellectual disability get to know each other better as they get to know Christ. No matter what you believe, or how you express it, you always have a friend here!

Midweek, Various Times

Monday Night Men’s Group

Biblical, real, straight-talking, where guys of all ages learn, grow and laugh together. The evenings begin with a large group video teaching, followed by a testimony from one of the guys, then breaks into small groups for discussion, prayer, and support. The group kicks off this fall with a BBQ Night on 9/19, followed by a six-week study series by Francis Chan on the Book of James. During the video teachings, Chan unpacks James verse-by-verse, challenging us to move beyond a private, intellectual knowledge of God and His Word, to a vibrant faith that impacts every square inch of life.

Large group teaching is interspersed with small group discussion and prayer. This fall the group will explore who the Holy Spirit is, what the Holy Spirit does, and how we can learn to rely on the Holy Spirit in our everyday lives. Join any week as we discover how the Holy Spirit empowers us to experience Christ’s abundant love, joy, and peace in the midst of whatever we are going through.

The Power of Jesus’ Names

Come as you are any week and be encouraged in faith by this friendly online community. In this video discussion study, Dr. Tony Evans brings the power of Jesus’ names into real-life perspective as he teaches on site in Israel where Jesus walked and taught. Jesus’ names carry great weight, and together, we’ll discuss and reflect on their meaning for our lives and this world. This is a great way to draw nearer to God as you prepare to celebrate Christmas!

Sign Up for a New Small Group

New Small Groups Coming in the New Year

Stay tuned for sign ups and more information about small groups that will begin in January and February. Joining a small group is a great way to grow deeper in your faith and relationship with Christ while building community with the church. As you grow spiritually with your group, you’ll encourage each other through the highs and lows of life. Consider today how you’ll make time for a group in the new year. Groups typically have 6-8 week series so that you can get a feel for group dynamics and making time to be a part of it. After the first series, the group will determine whether they would like to continue meeting for another.
